Yellow Tang
In my previous life as a painter, I painted a whole aquarium scene which
included a yellow tang. Now as a mosaicist, I decided I needed to create one as
a mosaicked sculpture. “Yellow Tang”
is covered with many hundreds of yellow
discs and a whole lot of bead work. The base of the fish is made from Styrofoam
covered in concrete. The tang is rather light but the rock weighs 10 pounds. I
wanted it to look like the fish is just swimming by a rock.
“Yellow Tang” stands 16" tall, is 17" nose to tail, and is 10"
deep (including the rock).
Yellow Tang was on display in a juried show at the
Los Gatos Art Museum, Tait & Main, Los Gatos, CA
from October 25 through December 5, 2009.
